Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about MudBringer.

General Questions

Is MudBringer free?

Yes. MudBringer is free to download and use. There is no subscription, no paid tier, and no feature lock behind a purchase.

Is MudBringer Open Source?

MudBringer is currently developed and maintained by Heresy Games. If active development permanently ends, our intention is to release the source code under a permissive license so the community can preserve and continue the project.

How many game sessions can I run at once?

Unlimited. MudBringer uses highly optimized parsing engines and the custom GlyphAPI display renderer to manage terminal sessions with near-zero overhead. The only limit is your local system hardware.

How does MudBringer allow comfortable control of multiple sessions?

We avoid cluttered screens by using dedicated screen docks, custom sidebar dashboards, shared global data, and quick delegation groups. Commands can be sent to designated groups with simple keystroke modifiers. Read more in our Managing Sessions and Tabs guide.

What language are MudBringer scripts written in?

MudBringer uses its own simple and robust scripting syntax inspired by the legacy MudMaster scripting framework. You can read the details in the Scripting Basics manual guide.

Will my old MudMaster scripts work in MudBringer?

Yes. MudBringer features a dedicated MudMaster Character Importer, as well as 100% native support for legacy `.mm` script files. The client loader automatically parses and maps legacy syntax to MudBringer-compatible configurations.

Can I package MudBringer for my MUD?

Yes. You can build custom distributions lock-keyed to your game server. See our Packaging Guide (COMING SOON) for how to lock default connection hosts, settings, layouts, fonts, and scripts to bundle a custom version of MudBringer for your specific MUD.

Will MudBringer come to Linux?

No. MudBringer relies heavily on Windows presentation interfaces and native OS integrations. There are no plans for a Linux release.

Will MudBringer come to Android or iOS?

Our Feature Roadmap outlines our long-term plan to build touch-friendly mobile clients, but development for Android and iOS ports has not yet begun.

Does MudBringer support MUD extension protocols (GMCP, MSDP, MSP)?

Yes. Out of the box, MudBringer fully parses Generic Mud Communication Protocol (GMCP), MSDP, and MSP (Mud Sound Protocol) so your dashboard panels, status bars, maps, and audio effects sync dynamically with the game server.

Where can I suggest features or report bugs?
